Early days

Ned was born in Ilford, Essex, (now in Greater London) in 1944 and came to the Black Country one sunny day in the Autumn of 1962. This began a long love affair with the Black Country, which turned into an interest in recording many aspects of its history.

Ned lived in Dudley from 1962 until 1974 and then moved to Wolverhampton to be close to his work at the Wulfrun College. He worked full time at the college from September 1967 until Easter 1997 - and by working "part time" for a further term was able to complete thirty years service. Since then he has mainly worked on a part-time basis for the Workers Educational Association, while also doing many one-off talks, day schools, guided walks etc…
